Now days , with the high cost of EVERYTHING, we could use a break on feeding the goats. Well I have found the secret, BEET PULP! Yes beet pulp. I have cut the amount of feed fed everyday in half. Would you like to do the same thing? well here's what you do: purchase a bag of beet pulp from your feed store or Tractor Supply. It will cost around $14.00 for a 40 lb bag, but it is well worth it, trust me I speak from experience. I am feeding 20 goats at the house and I am only using 2 1/2 metal scoops of feed a day. Before using beet pulp I was using 4 1/2 scoops of feed. Now my goats get the following mixture for their feed: Lucas Goat Feed (by Central States), Max-E-Glow (rice bran Vitamin E supplement), Calf Manna and B.O.S.S. (black oil sunflower seed). I mix all this together and keep it in a huge plastic trash can. I use a square plastic food container which holds about 3 cups and fill it three times with beet pulp and put it in a bucket. I add water to the beet pulp and mix well. You will have to play with the water to get the right amount. Let this mixture sit for about 1 or 2 hours. You can mix it with your feed sooner, but the longer it sits, the more it swells. Mix the wet beet pulp with your feed in layers and mix well. Now you will only need to use half the amount of feed because the rest is beet pulp. Your goats might not like it at first, so start out only adding small amounts mixed in the feed and increase everyday. Beet pulp is high in fiber and helps keep weight in your goats. So if you want to save some money and still feed your goats good, try adding beet pulp to their diet.
